Metal detector

A scarce and highly collectable military mine-detection set manufactured in Germany by Ebinger, a specialist producer of professional metal-detection equipment.

This example is the EBEX 420 PB, adopted for British military service under the designation L77A1. The original transport case is marked:

Dating approximately from the 1980s–1990s, this robust detector was designed for professional military mine-detection and field-clearance operations. It uses pulse-induction technology, developed to provide dependable metal detection and accurate target location under demanding field conditions.

The set is exceptionally complete and includes the detector, Type 420 PB search coil, sectional shaft, control unit, original military headphones, carrying equipment, original instruction manual and accompanying instruction sheets, as well as the fitted olive-green military transport case—all as shown in the photographs.

The detector has been tested and is in working condition. The original headphones are also functional. The headphone cable shows minor age-related wear to parts of its outer covering, without affecting its present operation.

The case and components display normal scratches, marks and signs of military use and storage, consistent with their age and history. These authentic traces of service contribute to the character of the set.

A rare and impressive piece of late-20th-century military engineering, particularly suitable for collectors of military technology, demining equipment, field instruments and historic metal detectors. The presence of the original instruction manual further enhances the completeness and collectable character of this set.
