Karl Stuhlmüller (1859-1930) - Ländliche Szene

The oil painting by Karl Stuhlmüller (1859–1930) depicts an idyllic rural summer scene from the Dachau countryside, characteristic of peasant life in Upper Bavaria around the turn of the century. At the center is presumably the summer or hay harvest: a vast meadow and field landscape stretches under a bright, summery sky, while peasant work and nature are connected into a harmonious whole.

Stuhlmüller places particular emphasis on the atmospheric rendition of the summer light. Karl Stuhlmüller, who is especially known for his depictions of peasant life and the landscape in the Dachau area, belongs to the circle of the Dachau Painters’ Colony. His works combine precise observation of nature with a free, painterly treatment of light and color.
