New Hen, an oil painting from the United Kingdom, dated 2020+, by Emmanuelle Capatos.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

New Hen presents a serene still life in which pale eggs rest within a softly modelled ceramic vessel, accompanied by a small arrangement of delicate flowers. The simplicity of the subject allows the painting’s atmosphere to take centre stage, creating a sense of quiet domesticity and understated elegance.

Capatos builds the composition through subtle tonal relationships, balancing the cool whites and muted greens of the ceramics and eggs against a deep, atmospheric background. The gentle highlights across the eggs and the painterly treatment of the ceramic surfaces demonstrate a careful attention to light, texture and form.

The result is a contemporary still life that feels both intimate and timeless. New Hen reflects the enduring appeal of ordinary objects transformed through close observation, while retaining the restrained, contemplative character that defines much of Capatos’ still life practice.

Emmanuelle Capatos

Born in 2000, Emmanuelle Capatos is a British painter working in the tradition of classical oil painting.

While studying Theatre and French for her Bachelor of Arts, Capatos experienced a decisive calling towards painting in 2020, subsequently redirecting her path towards the study and practice of traditional oil painting. She completed her atelier training at The Glasgow Academy of Fine Art in 2024, where she later worked as an assistant teacher, studio manager and Anatomy Instructor.

Capatos’ practice explores the relationship between material realism and deeper symbolic meaning. Drawing upon the visual traditions of ancient Egypt, Greece and Mesopotamia, she is interested in the enduring language of symbolism and narrative, and in the ways painting can engage with human nature and the spiritual dimensions of everyday life.

Through the discipline of traditional oil painting, Capatos seeks to reveal the beauty and significance present in the world around us.
