Jr (1983) - Le Louvre - Pyramide

In 2016, JR was invited to the Louvre Museum. For the occasion, the artist announced his intention to make the museum’s famous glass pyramid disappear. To do this, JR covered the entire structure with photographs from earlier historical images predating its construction. The result was a striking anamorphosis: the museum’s old forgotten entrance emerged in the present and regained its former splendor. In doing so, JR revives the past and evokes the controversy that once surrounded the pyramid’s construction; involuntarily, we are led to ask whether we assign excessive importance to things, or if we simply forget too quickly.
