Carlo Collodi/Antonio Negri/Alberto Martini - Le avventure di Pinocchio del Collodi - 1954

RARE and hard-to-find edition of Pinocchio by Collodi!!!! A version in the Milanese dialect of Pinocchio, realized by the vernacular poet Antonio Negri with the splendid engravings by the “wizard of black and white” Alberto Martini. An edition “special” as indicated in the colophon, printed by Edizioni del Convivio Letterario of Bergamo at the end of December 1954 “for the total benefit of the monument to Pinocchio being erected in Milan,” namely the statue of the puppet-child created by Attilio Fagioli. Inaugurated on May 19, 1956, the ornamental fountain (called the “Fontana a Pinocchio”) placed in the gardens of Corso Indipendenza with the bronze work by the sculptor from Bagno a Ripoli bears at its center the inscription—the epitaph written by Negri himself: “How funny I was when I was a puppet! And you who look at me, are you sure you have tamed the puppet that lives in you?” In 8vo, plain paperback with illustrated dust jacket, pp. 93[3], engravings by Alberto Martini in black and white in the text.
