AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

In Quiet focuses on the understated beauty of a single mangosteen, presented against a deep, almost nocturnal background. The simplicity of the composition gives the fruit a strong visual presence, inviting attention to its distinctive form, surface and subtle tonal variations.

The painting is characterised by its controlled use of light. The softly illuminated fruit emerges gradually from the surrounding darkness, while the muted ceramic vessel introduces additional shapes and textures to the composition. Small details, including the delicate flowers and reflective surfaces, enrich the stillness without disturbing its sense of balance.

Capatos transforms an everyday subject into a contemplative study of colour, light and form. In Quiet draws on the tradition of intimate still life painting while maintaining a distinctly contemporary atmosphere, making it particularly suited to collectors interested in oil painting, botanical subjects and atmospheric still life.

Emmanuelle Capatos

Born in 2000, Emmanuelle Capatos is a British painter working in the tradition of classical oil painting.

While studying Theatre and French for her Bachelor of Arts, Capatos experienced a decisive calling towards painting in 2020, subsequently redirecting her path towards the study and practice of traditional oil painting. She completed her atelier training at The Glasgow Academy of Fine Art in 2024, where she later worked as an assistant teacher, studio manager and Anatomy Instructor.

Capatos’ practice explores the relationship between material realism and deeper symbolic meaning. Drawing upon the visual traditions of ancient Egypt, Greece and Mesopotamia, she is interested in the enduring language of symbolism and narrative, and in the ways painting can engage with human nature and the spiritual dimensions of everyday life.

Through the discipline of traditional oil painting, Capatos seeks to reveal the beauty and significance present in the world around us.
