Friend of Charles FILIGER, he joined GAUGUIN in Pont-Aven during the summer of 1890 and directly received his advice.
Influenced by the woods of VALLOTON and RIVIERE, he made his first engraving in 1893 and developed knife-edge engraving on end-grain wood.
