Two-volume edition of Examen des doctrines médicales et des systèmes de nosologie (1821) by F.-J.-V. Broussais, in demi‑cuir binding, published by Méquignon-Marvis in French, with 871 pages, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Important 1821 edition of Examen des doctrines médicales et des systèmes de nosologie, a major work of French medicine at the beginning of the 19th century.
Paris, Méquignon-Marvis, 1821, complete in 2 volumes.
This edition constitutes a substantial redesign and development of the work initially published in 1816. Broussais examines and confronts the main medical doctrines and the various systems of nosology, while presenting the principles of physiological medicine. The work particularly addresses theories of disease, fevers, phlegmasias, neuroses, organic disorders and the various European medical schools.
Collation: CXXVII + 873 pages, continuous pagination across the two volumes. The table of contents ends indeed on page 873. This collation corresponds to copies preserved in institutional collections.
Uniform bindings in half brown morocco, spine with raised bands bearing the author’s name, the title and the volumes gilt, boards decorated.
The set presents a beautiful overall condition. The bindings are clean with a few light signs of wear. Interiors well preserved, paper remains fresh overall, with some foxing and small marks visible in the photographs.
Complete set of the two volumes of this important 1821 edition.
Note: this is not the first edition of the work. The first appeared in 1816; the 1821 edition is a deeply redesigned and augmented second edition.
