First edition from 1854 of P. Diday's Traité de la syphilis des nouveau-nés et des enfants à la mamelle, a medical work in French bound in demi cuir with 439 pages published by Librairie de Victor Masson, in excellent condition.

First edition of this important French treatise from the 19th century devoted to congenital and infantile syphilis. The work had won the gold medal at the Bordeaux competition, organized by the Société de médecine of this city, as indicated on the title page.
The original edition of 1854 is also preserved in several important institutional medical collections.
The work studies in particular detail the transmission of syphilis in the newborn and child: congenital and acquired syphilis, influence of the father and the mother, transmission during pregnancy, contamination during delivery or breastfeeding, symptomatology, diagnosis, prognosis and treatments.
The second part describes in particular the various manifestations of the disease: chancres, buboes, mucosal plaques, skin lesions, pustules, bone, visceral and pulmonary involvement.
The last part is devoted to therapy and prevention.
