On this square format, Medsan places Child Son Goku, the hero of Dragon Ball, sitting cross-legged in the center of a wide golden cloud whose swirl curves to the right. He grins from ear to ear, eyes wide, looking at us, fists resting on his knees, his red staff with gold tips slung diagonally across his back. His face, arms and hands are white, covered with blue flowers, swirls and dragons, and a fine network of golden lines runs over them from the top of the head to the knees and to the left-drawn monkey tail, whose tip is dark blue. The gi is brown-orange, the belt blue, and the kanji 亀 stands out in black within a light disk on his chest. Behind him the background is almost black, shaded with dark brown; at the top right floats an orange globe with four red stars in a warm halo. At the bottom right, the cartouche メドサン, in red.

A bright and direct piece, ideal for adding a pop and Japanese touch to a contemporary collector’s manga culture interior.

Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; under the name Popsan, he revisits pop culture icons by blending pop art, Japanese art and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates at the Atelier Joconde, a family artist workshop, alongside the artists Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
