Patrice Hugues (1930-2024) – Abstract composition – Original signed work – 101 × 73.5 cm
Beautiful original work by Patrice Hugues (1930-2024), French artist, painter and researcher, representative of his investigations into matter, texture, pattern and printing processes.
Monumental abstract composition in black, gray and white, built around organic and geometric forms that overlap in a substantial exploration of textures and weaves.
The work is signed “P. Hugues” in the bottom right corner.
Dimensions: 100.5 × 73 cm.
Work from a personal donation by Patrice Hugues in the 1980s to a Parisian couple of friends who settled in Normandy.
Patrice Hugues settled in Upper Normandy in 1970, in Saint-Aubin-Celloville near Rouen, where he established his house-studio. He also developed strong ties with Rouen and the Normandy region, notably through several exhibitions and completed projects.
The verso of the work bears no label or commercial inscription.
About Patrice Hugues
Trained in painting in Fernand Léger’s workshop, Patrice Hugues later studied history at the Sorbonne before dedicating himself fully to artistic creation.
His work gradually evolved toward an original exploration of fabric, texture, printing and pattern. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, he notably experimented with spray painting through textures and weaves.
His work is now represented in several public collections, notably the Museums of Angers and the FRAC Normandy.
