AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Large Japanese Imari lidded octagonal baluster vase, multi-coloured with gold
Meiji period

Japan, ca. 1870-1900

Octagonal (octagonal) baluster-shaped lidded vase in Japanese Imari porcelain, decor executed in the classic Imari palette: cobalt blue, iron red and gold on a white ground. The body is divided into paneled sections with floral motifs (peony, chrysanthemum) alternating with brocade-like diaper panels in blue with red cartouches and gilded edge trims. The lid is crowned with a pointed knob decorated in blue and red with a gilded top.

The foot is unglazed (biscuit), with visible old kiln grit — characteristic of 19th-century Arita porcelain. At the edge of the lid, the gilded rim is slightly worn, consistent with age; no other damages visible.

Dimensions:
approx. 34.5 cm H
approx. 18 cm W
approx. 19 cm D
