Description from the seller

Cristiano Banti (1824–1904) – Landscape – Work signed “C. BANTI” – 19th century

Interesting painting depicting a landscape, bearing the signature “C. BANTI” in the bottom right.

The work, of modest size, features a material and immediate painting, with swift brushstrokes and a palette dominated by greens, browns, grays, and earthy tones.

The composition concentrates attention on the vegetation and the relationship between the darker areas of the landscape and the brightness of the sky, creating depth and a suggestive natural atmosphere.

The work is presented inside a gilded wooden frame adorned with decoration.

Cristiano Banti

Cristiano Banti (Santa Croce sull’Arno, 1824 – Montemurlo, 1904) was one of the protagonists of 19th-century Italian painting and was close to the Macchiaioli movement, developed in Tuscany in the second half of the 19th century.

Signature

The painting clearly bears the signature “C. BANTI” in the bottom right, as documented in the detailed attached photographs.

Back and inscriptions

Of particular interest is the back of the work.

On the back there is an old vintage photograph depicting an ancient wheeled means/machine.

There are also several historical handwritten annotations, among which the name “Cristiano Banti” appears and a manuscript reference relating to the work.

The signature, inscriptions, and the back photograph are shown in detail in the pictures and constitute important elements for evaluation.
