A charming vintage Oris 15 Swiss mechanical men’s watch, dating approximately from 1945–1955, featuring a classic hand-wound mechanical movement, subsidiary seconds and elegant post-war styling.
The watch features a 33 mm gold-plated case, an acrylic crystal and an attractive silver dial with prominent Arabic numerals. The small-seconds register at 6 o’clock gives the watch the unmistakable appearance of a mid-20th-century mechanical wristwatch.
The dial is signed ORIS 15 and SWISS MADE, while the stainless-steel case back carries period French markings confirming the construction of the watch.

The Story
Dating approximately from 1945–1955, this Oris belongs to a fascinating period in Swiss watchmaking, when the wristwatch had firmly established itself as an essential everyday object and manufacturers were refining the reliable, compact mechanical movements that would define the post-war era.
Founded in Hölstein, Switzerland, in 1904, Oris developed a strong reputation for producing robust and accessible mechanical watches. This example reflects that philosophy particularly well: a straightforward mechanical watch built around the essential functions of hours, minutes and subsidiary seconds.
The small-seconds display at 6 o’clock is one of the defining visual signatures of watches from this generation. Together with the Arabic numerals, slim hands and restrained silver dial, it gives the watch an unmistakably mid-century appearance.
Another particularly interesting detail is found on the case back. The inscription “LUNETTE PLAQUÉ G 10 MICRONS – FOND ACIER INOX” documents its period construction: gold plating specified at 10 microns, combined with a stainless-steel back. Rather than simply imitating the appearance of gold, the watch records the plating specification directly on the case.
The 33 mm diameter is also entirely characteristic of a men’s wristwatch of the period. Combined with the elongated lugs, it creates elegant proportions and considerably more presence than the diameter alone might suggest.
Today, this Oris preserves the qualities that make early post-war Swiss watches appealing to collectors: mechanical simplicity, compact proportions, small-seconds architecture, period-correct gold plating and more than seven decades of naturally developed vintage character.
