Description from the seller

Jean-Albert CARLOTTI (1909-2002) -
Set of 4 portraits and studies of female nudes - Lyon School / Groupe des Nouveaux

Lot description:

Splendid set of four (4) original works on paper by the French artist Jean-Albert Carlotti (1909-2002), a major figure of the Lyon School in the 20th century and a founding member of the renowned avant-garde group Les Nouveaux (alongside Cottavoz, Fusaro and Truphémus).
This lot comes directly from the artist’s studio collection, guaranteeing its perfect authenticity.
It consists of four portraits and studies of female nudes, a favored subject for Carlotti, where one finds his keen sense of theatricality, poetry, and the psychology of the models.

The ensemble beautifully illustrates the diversity of the artist’s techniques: from preparatory drawing to pure charcoal, up to the vibrant and textured overlays of pastels and mixed media. The almond-shaped eyes and wispy hair are highly characteristic of his manner.

Technical features:
• Artist: Jean-Albert Carlotti (1909-2002)
• Period: Mid-20th century
• Subject: Portraits and female nudes
• Support: Mixed media (charcoal, pastel, and oil-based pigments) on art paper
• Dimensions: About 50 x 60 cm per work (slight variations depending on the sheets)
• Quantity: Irreplaceable lot of 4 works
• Signature: 3 works are signed “Carlotti”; the fourth is not signed.

Condition:
• Three works are generally in good condition considering their studio-fund provenance (slight handling traces or border marks inherent to age, not detracting from overall aesthetics).
• Note: One of the four drawings shows a visible tear in the paper (see detail photos for review). This sheet remains fully handleable and can be stabilized or concealed when framed under glass.

An ideal lot for modern art enthusiasts, for the Lyon School, or for dealers and decorators looking to create a beautiful, thematically coherent display.

Careful shipping with tracking.
