This bucolic work depicts a sunlit clearing in the heart of the famous Chantilly forest. The artist deploys a vivid and generous post-impressionist brushwork to convey the freshness of a woodland carpeted with yellow and white wildflowers (probably gorse or buttercups), typical of the summer flora.

The handling of light is particularly successful: sunbeams pass through the treetops in the background and strike the earthen path as well as the floral bouquets in the foreground, creating splendid shadows on the ground. The work perfectly captures the peaceful and warm atmosphere of a summer day in the countryside.
