Frank-Will (1900-1950) – Saint-Valery, 1950
Oil on canvas depicting a harbor scene at Saint-Valery, with a sailing boat, lighthouse and pier.
Work signed Frank-Will bottom left and located “St Valery” bottom right.
On the back, handwritten inscription “St Valery 1950”.
This work is therefore dated 1950, i.e., the very last period of the artist, Frank-Will having died in the same year.
Frank-Will, pseudonym of Frank William Boggs (1900-1950), is a French painter known notably for his views of Paris, his landscapes and his port scenes. Son of the painter Frank Myers Boggs, he moved in the Parisian artistic milieu and is distinguished by a vivid, spontaneous and expressive painting.
Beautiful pictorial quality, with impasto particularly visible in the treatment of the sea, the sky and the sails.
