Description from the seller
"Silent Fracture" – Original Painting
Original, handmade painting by Daniel Witschkanow, 2026
Description
"Silent Fracture" presents a highly abstracted human portrait that emerges from a dense network of black lines, overlays, and open spaces. In particular the eye, nose, and mouth protrude from the free structure, while large parts of the face are only implied. This creates a depiction that is simultaneously immediately human and nearly completely dissolved.
The composition lives from the contrast between heavy black concentrations and expansive light areas of the canvas. Fine lines run through the face, cross, disappear, and reappear elsewhere. Subtle beige and broken traces in the background take away the whiteness of the surface its sterility and give the work a raw, almost aged materiality.
From a distance a clear portrait forms. Up close it falls apart into individual threads, droplets, loops, and gestural movements. It is precisely this alternation between figuration and abstraction, presence and dissolution, that gives "Silent Fracture" its special intensity and makes the work experience anew depending on the viewing distance.
About the image
At the center of the work stands a face that does not become fully graspable. Individual features appear distinctly and present, while other areas seemingly vanish in the flow of lines. This creates the impression of an identity that hovers between visibility and inner dissolution.
Especially the concentrated eye and the powerfully worked mouth lend the portrait a strong psychological presence. The surrounding lines can be read as thoughts, memories, or inner tensions that overlay the face and repeatedly interrupt its clear form.
"Silent Fracture" deliberately tells no unambiguous story. The work can be understood as an exploration of memory, self-image, inner unrest, or emotional fragmentation. The tension between quiet and chaos, identity and decay, control and letting go remains consciously open and leaves room for personal interpretation by the viewer.
Technique
The painting was created in the artist’s characteristic thread technique. To achieve this, a high-quality, highly pigmented acrylic glaze is mixed with selected painting media until a fluid yet controllable consistency is reached. This allows long, fine, dynamic traces of color to be brought onto the canvas.
The color is guided with brush and hand, drawn, flung, and selectively condensed. Through numerous overlays, both extremely fine lines and powerful black areas arise. From this interplay, the eye, nose, mouth, and facial contours develop, without the portrait being traditionally closed.
An essential component of this working method is controlled chance. Speed, direction of movement, distance, and consistency influence every single trace. No line can be exactly repeated. Thus the work possesses a completely individual structure and remains a completely handmade one-of-a-kind with an unmistakable signature.
Additional gestural and lasing traces on the light background enhance the material depth of the canvas and create a deliberate contrast between the free background areas and the densely concentrated black regions.
