Authentic antique Indo-Persian brass censer from the late 19th century, India, circa 1870–1890, in Bidriware Koftgari style, 11.3 cm high, 10.8 cm wide and deep, 165 g.
Description from the seller
Authentic, antique Indo-Persian incense burner from the late 19th century, crafted circa 1870–1890. The piece is handmade from a dark patinated metal alloy and is adorned across the surface with refined, detailed floral inlay work in the traditional Koftgari- or Bidriware style. The design features a globular reservoir with a hinged lid equipped with three functional ventilation openings to allow fragrant smoke to escape. This reservoir rests on a central shaft attached to a wide, round ash receiver, which in turn is supported by three elegantly shaped and hand-forged feet. The underside of the dish shows clear, authentic lathe traces, underscoring the artisanal character of this anonymous smithwork without factory marks. Inside the lid and the deep ash bowl are evident historical soot and scorching marks, testifying to intensive original use with smoldering resins or charcoal. The object is in good antique condition with a beautifully preserved patina, and both the hinge and the catch are fully functional. With compact dimensions of 11.3 centimeters in height and 10.8 centimeters in width and depth, and a total weight of 165 grams, this censer forms a characteristic and decorative collectible of Eastern applied art.
