Wooden chessboard with Granada-style marquetry dating from 1960–1970, square 60 by 60 cm, in good condition and made in Spain.
Description from the seller
Wood chessboard with inlay decoration, Granadine inlay technique, second half of the 20th century.
Description
Square board of 64 alternating squares in two contrasting woods — one lighter (possibly boxwood or maple) and another reddish (mahogany or rosewood) —, without additional decoration on the playing surface, letting the natural grain of the wood be the only ornament of the squares.
The perimeter frame, however, concentrates the entire decorative repertoire: a geometric inlay zigzag runs along the outer edge, followed by a band of marquetry with diamond motifs and broken lines in light and dark tones. In the corners and at the midpoint of each side are placed eight-pointed star medallions (Islamic lacería motif), made with wood, bone or mother-of-pearl tesserae in green, red, white and black, forming the classic star and interlaced polygons drawing typical of Granadine inlay.
Certified shipping and careful packaging.
