AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

“L’Art de Naviger”, Claude-François Milliet de Dechales 1677.

Very rare work on the art of navigation and practical seamanship, in two parts. It covers, among other things, the determination of the ship’s course, the use of nautical instruments, as well as calculations and orientation at sea.
The first part contains numerous woodcuts in the text and the second part includes full-page, partly fold-out tables.

The pages are slightly browned due to age. At the beginning up to about halfway there are somewhat stronger water stains in the upper area. Worm tracks are found throughout the inner part of the pages. They are initially quite noticeable, then fade, and later become stronger and larger again toward the end. However, they are almost continuously outside the text and cause at most a small loss of characters.
Pages 25–30 in the second part are missing.

The binding has been lightly restored at the spine and is somewhat rubbed.

Collation: 10 leaves, 264 (recte 274) pages, 47 (of 53) numbered pages

Dimensions: 23 x 19.5 cm
