Description from the seller
► “Naked Reverie” – Original Painting
Original, hand-made painting by Daniel Witschkanow, 2026
Description
“Naked Reverie” shows a naked woman in a quiet, inward-facing posture. Her body is slightly compressed and appears less as a classical nude study and more as a moment of retreat, self-observation, and vulnerability. The figure seems completely at ease with herself—present, yet turned away from the outside world.
The composition lives from the strong tension between the soft body form and the dense black mesh of lines. In particular, the head, shoulders, arms, and the contours of the body are emphasized by bold condensations, while large light areas are deliberately left open. This creates a pictorial language that is at once sensual, raw, and restrained.
From a greater distance the female figure appears immediate and clearly recognizable. Up close she dissolves into a complex net of threads, overlays, droplets, and free movements. It is precisely this combination of corporeality and abstraction, proximity and retreat, that gives “Naked Reverie” its particular intensity.
About the painting
At the center of the work is not nudity as a mere motif, but the vulnerability of the human body. The woman does not appear staged or demonstrative, but in a moment of quiet self-absorption. Her posture can be read as protection, contemplation, calm, or emotional withdrawal.
The black line structure drapes over the body, traces it, and at the same time dissolves it again. This creates a tension between visibility and veiling, body and feeling, strength and fragility. The figure remains identifiable as a recognizable form, yet partly dissolves in the expressive structure.
It is precisely this openness that makes the work multi-layered. “Naked Reverie” can be understood as a study of femininity, intimacy, self-perception, or inner calm. The nudity is not primarily erotic; rather it serves as a symbol of openness, honesty, and emotional exposure.
Technique
The painting was created in the artist’s characteristic thread technique. For this, a high-quality, richly pigmented acrylic glaze is mixed with selected painting media until a fluid yet controllable consistency is achieved. This allows long, fine, and dynamic color traces to be laid onto the canvas.
The color is guided with brush and hand, drawn, flung, and selectively condensed. Through numerous overlays, delicate threads as well as powerful dark areas arise. From this interplay, the body, face, arms, and the spatial tension within the figure develop.
A key component of this technique is controlled chance. Movement, distance, speed, and consistency influence every single color trace. No line can be exactly repeated. This gives the work an unmistakable structure and makes it a fully handmade one-of-a-kind with a strong personal signature.
High-quality acrylic paints and glazes provide intense blacks, clear contrasts, and a durable color effect.
