DESCRIPTION: I present at auction one of the most spectacular and complete Victorian family bibles of the era: "The National Comprehensive Family Bible", edited by Rev. John Eadie (biblical literature professor at the United Presbyterian Church) with the classic Scott & Henry commentary, published by Howard & Co. in London.

A colossal volume (34 x 28 cm and 6 kg) conceived as a masterpiece of British editorial art, with solid wooden boards covered in thick molded leather and elegant bronze corner protectors carved with openwork crosses.

ARCHITECTURAL BINDING AND FURNITURE:

+ Solid Wood Covers: Built on heavy wooden boards (1-2 cm thick), giving it a commanding solidity and presence.

+ Full Leather with Central Molding: Covered in black leather with pronounced grain. The main cover features a deep beveled star-shaped frame housing the legend "HOLY BIBLE" in relief and outlined in gold leaf.

+ Spine with 5 Raised Bands: A grand spine with debossed Latin cross motifs and the title "THE NATIONAL FAMILY BIBLE" in bright gold leaf.

+ Original Bronze Fittings: Keeps the elegant angular corner protectors in gilded bronze with pierced crosses at the corners.

CONDITION: Original full leather binding on solid wooden boards, in good overall condition, with some rubbing and signs of use on edges and corners, as shown in the photos. Spine with five raised bands decorated with cross motifs in blind and titling in gold. Retains original brass fittings and corner protectors. The interior is in good condition, with clean, fresh pages, with occasional minor rust spots, as shown in the photos.
