Antique Metric Trade Weight Set – 2 kg to Small Weights – Original Wooden Block – c. 1900
Beautiful and substantial antique metric trade weight set, presented in its original fitted wooden storage block.
The collection contains numerous graduated weights, including impressive large examples marked 2 KILOGRAMMES, 1 KILOGRAMME and 500 GRAMMES, together with a range of smaller gram weights.
These weights were traditionally used together with a balance scale by shopkeepers, merchants and other professional trades for accurately weighing goods. Today, complete groups of old trade weights are increasingly attractive as collectible pieces of commercial and industrial history.
The different shapes, sizes and naturally developed patina give the collection a particularly decorative and authentic appearance. The original wooden block has individually shaped compartments for storing the weights.
The weights display engraved denominations and various old verification/calibration marks, which add to their historical character.
