Antique-style entryway cabinet with coat rack and umbrella holder, recovered, restored, and reinterpreted by GLAB – Correggio, Italy.
This piece began as an experimental prototype created in the GLAB workshop during a research phase dedicated to applying tactile relief printing on supports and objects different from the traditional painting.
As the project’s base, an antique entryway cabinet was used, presumably dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, complete with brass-hinged coat hooks and an umbrella holder in the lower part.
After recovering and restoring the structure, GLAB reinterpreted the cabinet through new color finishes and the integration of a reproduction inspired by “The Kiss” (Der Kuss, 1907–1908) by Gustav Klimt.
The image is not a simple flat decorative print: it was created using a tactile relief printing process, which gives the surface a physical presence and noticeable variations in thickness, especially when hit by oblique light. Detail photographs show the material quality of the workmanship.
The composition was specially adapted to the cabinet’s structure: the central large panel houses the main subject, while the floral and decorative elements continue in the lower part, becoming an integral part of the object.
This is not a mass-produced product. This specific specimen was produced by GLAB as an experimental prototype and is a unique piece, created to explore the meeting between the recovery of an antique furnishing, decoration, and contemporary tactile relief printing.
The original cabinet preserves some irregularities, patinas, and traces of time, partly intentionally kept during restoration. These features are part of the object’s nature and history and should not be regarded as defects of a new product.
