Context and history
In 2001, Louis Vuitton enlisted American artist Stephen Sprouse to reinterpret its historic monogram. The result: the Graffiti collection, the first official détournement of the Monogram canvas in the house’s history, where the emblematic pattern is covered with hand-painted lettering in a street-art style. This collaboration is today regarded as one of the most important in the history of luxury leather goods, a precursor to the fashion x street art collaborations that have proliferated since. The colorway presented here is khaki/olive green, one of the three original release colors (along with white and brown). The piece was commercialized only once, in 2001, and has never been reissued identically, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item today.
