La Princesse Méduse, by Daniel Darc with Félix and Frédéric Régamey, is a first edition hardback (Paris: G. Charpentier, 1880) in French, 175 pages, 28 x 21.5 cm, with eight hand-coloured plates in very good condition.
Description from the seller
First edition in hardback boards, with the title page reproduced on the front board.
This is a moral fable about vanity and cruelty redeemed through another's selfless love and courage, in the vein of classic French fairy tales. like those by Perrault etc.
With 8 full page hand coloured plates by the brothers Félix and Frédéric Régamey. There is a facsimile dedication leaf "To Georgette and Paul Charpentier, an old bespectacled storyteller, Daniel Darc". Georgette and Paul were the two children of the publisher Georges Charpentier, and they were also famously painted by Renoir in 'Madame Charpentier and Her Children' (1878).
"Daniel Darc" was the pen name of Marie-Sidonie Serrure (1840–1887), a Parisien writer who in 1861 married the physician Raoul-Emmanuel Régnier and is accordingly also catalogued as Mme E.-R. Régnier. She wrote regularly for Le Figaro, and corresponded extensively with Flaubert.
Internally light to moderate foxing, but mostly in very good condition, and the coloured plates are in very good shape.
