Antique Ikebana basket from Japan, made in the first quarter of the 20th century. The basket is multi-layered and finely woven, consisting of several layers of bamboo. Inside the basket sits the original earthenware vase. The basket comes with its original lid.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is also called kadō—the way of the flowers. Unlike the art of flower arranging in the Western world, where the quality of the flowers is paramount, Japanese flower arranging focuses on creating an attractive composition in which the basket plays an important role.
