European School (XX) - Moulin Rouge, Parijs – Montmartre stadsgezicht

Large and decorative oil painting on canvas with a lively Paris city view around the famous Moulin Rouge in Montmartre.

The work shows the characteristic red mill, Parisian facades, shops and strolling figures. The scene is executed in a loose, impressionistic style with a rich paint surface and locally clearly thick paint / impasto. Especially the architecture, canopies and reflections on the street are built up with stevige paintbrush and palette knife strokes.

Signed on the bottom right. The signature appears to read as “Bur…/Burg…?”, but the exact artist’s name could not be determined with certainty. For that reason the work is offered as a signed painting by an unidentified artist.

Oil on stretched canvas. The back shows the original wooden cross-brace frame with central reinforcement. The painting is fitted with a wide, gold-colored wooden frame with a light-colored inner frame.

A very large size and, due to the recognizable Parisian subject, a highly decorative piece for a classic, vintage or eclectically styled interior.
