Ardbeg Blasda - b. 2000s - 70cl

Ardbeg Blasda is an unusual and now discontinued limited release from the famous Ardbeg Distillery on Islay. The name “Blasda” comes from Scottish Gaelic and translates roughly as “sweet and delicious”.

Released in 2008, Blasda was created to show a lighter side of Ardbeg. While the distillery is famous for its intensely peated and smoky single malts, Blasda was produced with a considerably lower peat level, resulting in a more delicate interpretation of the classic Ardbeg style.

Another distinctive feature is that Blasda was chill-filtered, which is unusual for modern Ardbeg bottlings. The release was bottled for only a relatively short period and has since disappeared from the distillery’s range.

An interesting discontinued Ardbeg that stands apart from the distillery’s more heavily peated expressions and offers collectors a piece of Ardbeg’s modern history.
