Henri Joseph Harpignies (attributed to) – Willow by a Fence

Atmospheric French landscape painting attributed to Henri Joseph Harpignies (1819–1916). Henri Joseph Harpignies is regarded as one of the foremost French landscape painters of the 19th century and a key figure within the School of Barbizon. He was close friends with Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and worked in the circle of Daubigny, Théodore Rousseau, Jules Dupré and Millet. His influential studies of nature formed an important link toward Impressionism.

The painting is executed in oil on panel and features a strikingly decorated, gilded frame with floral ornamentation. The combination of the small, intimate size and the monumental frame makes it an attractive decorative and collectible work.
