Art Nouveau coffee pot, Rosenthal & Co., design by Philipp Rosenthal.

Series "Iris" with lily-of-the-valley decor and hand-painted gold gilding, on overglaze.

In the early years of production (about 1898 to 1906) the Iris series was marketed under the green "R.C." stamp with a crown (Rosenthal Co.). Pieces from this phase are particularly sought after by collectors, as, like this pot, they additionally bear hand-painted brush-lacquer numbers.

True to floral Art Nouveau, the form imitates nature. It appears organically grown—as if the pot itself were rising from the ground like a plant or bloom.

Typical for this model range are the flowing, relief-like wavelines, reminiscent of the leaves of an iris (Iris).

Condition: Very good vintage condition.
At the bottom 2 small chips (production-related), overglazed.
On the underside edge of the lid a more noticeable chip.

The Iris series, introduced by Rosenthal in 1897/1898, is among the most significant and beautiful milestones of German porcelain Art Nouveau and radicaly breaks with the historicist, stiff forms of the 19th century. At that time the Rosenthal manufactory, founded in 1879, was in a rapid phase of expansion and modernization. Founder Philipp Rosenthal recognized early that porcelain must be more than functional; it had to reflect the artistic spirit of the era.

DHL is significantly restricting package shipping from Germany to the USA due to new US customs regulations.
From private customers, for the time being only packages declared as gifts with contents valued up to 100 USD (currently about 86 euros) are being sent to the USA.

Shipping of gifts with a merchandise value over 100 USD or commercial goods is NOT possible for the time being under the new US customs rules for postal deliveries. For private and commercial shipping, the very expensive merchandise shipment via DHL Express is available in this case. It is also to be expected that these shipments will be more heavily inspected than before to deter abuse of gift shipments for the shipment of commercial goods.

Before you bid, please inform yourself about the current import regulations of your country.
