Description from the seller
a magnificent and authentic marine repeating compass in solid brass from the famous SAGEM brand (Model M.S. 4). This military navigation instrument of the Navy is a true piece of maritime history, ideal for collectors or for interior decoration in an industrial, loft, or seaside style. On a ship, this device served to reproduce in real time the course indicated by the main gyroscopic compass (mother compass) for the helmsman or officers on the bridge. Piece features:
Manufacturer: SAGEM (Argenteuil - Montluçon)
Model: M.S. 4
Precise dating: Official C.C.M.T Market No. 10961 dated 22/12/1953
Materials: Heavy brass housing, original red copper nameplate, thick protective glass.
Condition: Very beautiful state of preservation "as found", with a superb patina of the era (may be polished for a shiny mirror effect). The black inner dial, hands and the double graduations are pristine and perfectly legible. No cracks in the glass. The lateral adjustment knobs are present. A heavy and robust item, superb quality of mid-20th-century military manufacture.
