Set of four oil-on-cardboard studies of Normandy landscapes by Samuel Frère (1845–1931), signed and dated 1903, Impressionist, each 23 × 13 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Set of four oil paintings on cardboard (plein air studies) by Samuel Frère (Mont-Saint-Aignan, 1845 – Rouen, 1931), a Norman landscape painter, president of the Société artistique de Normandie, friend and biographer of the painter Albert Lebourg.
The four studies, painted on site, depict Norman landscapes: a village Gothic church overlooking a road, a woodland scene with a carriage and horses, a seaside scene with two walkers, and a steep cliff overlooking the coast.
Two of the works are signed and dated 1903, at the bottom right.
Technique: oil on cardboard.
Dimensions: 23 × 13 cm (frame not included) each.
Condition: generally good for studies of that period; wear and small losses at the edges, light surface rubbing (see photos). Unframed works.
Provenance: private collection, Île-de-France region.
Attribution: Samuel Frère (1845-1931) — signed works.
