Beautiful Antique Japanese Orihon (Accordion) Album from 1920 with Ukiyo-e Prints
For sale: a stunning and very unique traditional Japanese folding book (Orihon style) from 1920 (Taisho period) in excellent condition. This album features a beautiful cloth cover decorated with traditional Japanese masks (Noh/Kabuki) and calligraphy, complete with a luxurious closure cord with tassels.
Inside, you will find miniature prints of iconic Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints, including scenes from the world-renowned series "The 53 Stations of the Tokaido" and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" by Utagawa Hiroshige. Very special: the plates were at the time provided with carefully hand-written English captions that explain the historical context of the stop places.
