Rouen-style faience jardinière or centerpiece bowl, 18 cm tall with a maximum 29 cm diameter, weighing 2300 g, made in France, hand-painted polychrome decoration with lambrequins, draperies and cornucopias, blue Rouen mark and pattern/shape number 1163, in fairly good used condition with some minor defects.
Description from the seller
Antique flower pot or centerpiece bowl made of Rouen style earthenware resting on four molded foliage feet, featuring a rich hand-painted polychrome decoration of lambrequins, draperies and cornucopias. The shaped and lobed body of the piece is highlighted by relief scrolls outlined in yellow and green. The main decoration alternates between flower baskets and blue crosshatch grids characteristic of Normandy productions. The base bears the hand-painted Rouen mark in blue as well as a shape or pattern number 1163 written in black. The item features a height of 18 cm with a maximum top diameter of 29 cm. The individual weight of this heavy earthenware piece reaches a total of 2300 g. The preservation state of the piece shows its age and significant handling. Several ancient chips and glaze losses are clearly visible along the upper rim as well as on the edges of the relief decorations. A significant structural crack with missing material is also present near one of the handles or decorative openings, revealing the porous terracotta and old oxidation stains which should be carefully inspected on the close-up photographs.
