Les Péchés capitaux by Henry Detouche, first edition softback illustrated with seven Art Nouveau plates and poems, published in Paris by Le Grand Guignol in 1927–1928, 16 pages, 37 × 28 cm.
Description from the seller
"DETOUCHE, Henry (ill.). Les Péchés capitaux. Illustrations de Henry Detouche. [Paris: Le Grand Guignol, nouvelle série n° 40, numéro d'hiver 1927–1928.] The complete Detouche section of this special 'Sins' number, reissuing his 1900 Symbolist suite (originally limited to 175 copies) with the seven poems by Haraucourt, de Marthold, de Croisset, Legrand, Verhaeren, Régnier and Fontainas. Stiff illustrated card section-cover; seven full-page colour plates, each facing its poem. Stab-holes at the inner margin where removed from the magazine."
First Edition thus. A beautiful copy of this softback work.
With poems by Edmond Haraucourt, Jules de Marthold, Francis de Croisset, Marc Legrand, Emile Verhaeren, Henri de Régnier and André Fontainas.
Each of the poems about the Seven Deadly Sins is accompanied by a fabulous Art Nouveau symbolist illustration by Henry Detouche. These are beautifully coloured.
In an addition, the cover shows the sins in female form. The work was originally held by staples through stab marks at the spine edge but every copy we have seen has these stab holes, but is loose, as ours is.
Good, clean, fractionally darkened covers. Inside, this work is clean and tidy throughout.
Unpaginated - but 16 pages (including covers). 37 x 28 cm
This has been removed from a large art magazine. Le Grand Guignol.
