Description :
Authentic Dutch edition of the 17th century of the French-speaking Protestant Bible, printed in The Hague in 1664. Title page with the date in the period apostrophized numbering (CIƆ IƆ C LXIV).
Contents of the copy (Complete) :
1. Frontispiece title engraved original.
2. The New Testament (Complete text).
3. The Psalms of David, versified in French by Clément Marot and Théodore de Bèze, with all musical parts noted (square notes).
4. The Catechism, the Form of Ecclesiastical Prayers and the Confession of Faith.
Condition of preservation :
• Interior: Exceptional for a work of this era. Text block very fresh, overall without foxing, printed on a fine rag paper of the period, quite white.
• Binding: Full leather (brown calf) of the period, sturdy but worn (use wear to the headcaps and corners). Historical evidence of holes for the old clasps (clasps missing).
A magnificent witness to the history of the Huguenots and the Refuge in the Grand Siècle.
