A finely crafted Japanese pottery vase (tsubo), accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box) inscribed with "Bizen Tsubo," reflecting both authenticity and traditional craftsmanship.

This piece is distinguished by its robust, earthy form and rich, dark glaze that transitions into warm reddish-brown and ochre tones. Unlike the delicate crackle of Shino ware, this surface features a natural, textured finish typical of high-fired stoneware like Bizen or Shigaraki. The glaze appears to have flowed organically during firing, creating a unique, landscape-like pattern on the lower body that invites quiet contemplation in line with the aesthetics of wabi-sabi.

The vase features two small, sculptural handles (lugs) on the shoulders, adding to its archaic charm. The well-balanced, rounded form sits heavily and comfortably, making it an excellent vessel for Ikebana (flower arrangement) or as a standalone art object. Each detail reflects careful craftsmanship, from the unglazed rim to the controlled firing that produced this consistent yet lively surface. The presence of a signed tomobako further supports its origin as a preserved studio work.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The surface texture, including variations in color and minor kiln marks, is intentional and characteristic of this style of pottery. No cracks or chips visible.
