A richly mapped guide to Mediterranean ports and sea routes, extending to Madeira, the Canary Islands, the Moroccan coast, Algeria and Tunisia. The text combines practical travel information, shipping connections and accommodation details with descriptions of historical monuments, cities and places of interest.

Issued with 38 maps and 49 plans, many in colour and folding or double-page. The photographs show the general Mediterranean map and detailed plans of Constantinople, Jerusalem, Venice, Genoa, Algiers, Oran, Málaga, Granada, Seville and Lisbon. Other destinations covered include Alexandria, Athens, Beirut, Cairo, Odessa, Port Said, Tangier, Tripoli and Valletta.

An appealing volume for collectors of Baedeker guides, historical cartography and Mediterranean travel literature.

Condition
Original cloth with rubbing, fading and surface marks. Wear and fraying at the spine ends and corners, including exposed board at the lower front corner. Pages show age toning, scattered foxing and occasional staining; pencil price markings appear on the title page.

The maps pictured retain clear detail and attractive colour, with folding creases and occasional edge wear. The Lisbon plan shows browning along folds and small tears at the lower margin. Wear and a tear are also visible near the lower attachment of the opening map.
