Yaseneva Sveta - Dialogue with the Past

I live and work in Slovakia. Delivery within the European Union takes 5–7 working days.

With this painting, I wanted to create a meeting between two different times — the past and the present.

The woman seems to have stepped out of the Renaissance. There is something in her face, posture, clothing and restrained expression that recalls the dignity and quiet presence of Renaissance portraiture.

Yet the painting technique itself belongs entirely to our time. Instead of the materials used by the old masters, I work with contemporary acrylic paints. I apply the paint in a rich, impasto manner, leaving visible, expressive brushstrokes and creating a textured surface where colour becomes almost tangible. This contemporary technique creates a deliberate contrast with the woman, who seems to belong to another era.

This is why I called the painting “Dialogue with the Past.” As an artist, I constantly return in my thoughts to those times, to the art of the great masters and to their understanding of beauty, the human figure and painting itself. But I do not return to imitate the past. I want to have a conversation with it — using the language of a contemporary artist, modern materials, modern technique and my own artistic vision.

The city in the background also becomes part of this dialogue. Past and present exist side by side: the woman seems to belong to another century, while the world surrounding her continues to live in the present.

I believe this work should find its place with someone who appreciates not only its beauty, but also the idea behind it — a conversation between different eras. It is a painting for an interior where art history, craftsmanship and expressive painting are valued.
