Bunkoya Oozeki - Cigarette case - Bunko - Handmade, hand-painted

Very old Bunko leather case with embossing, presumably from the 1930s; handmade and hand-painted. It was originally probably intended as a cigarette case, but modern cigarettes do not fit inside.

The motif shows a Daimyo procession. The Daimyo procession is one of the characteristic and historically most significant traditional Bunko leather patterns by Bunkoya Oozeki; it represents the luxurious ceremonial journeys of feudal lords from the Edo period.

Condition description:
No visible damage; the leather on the outside is discolored (patina). I don’t know whether the tiny cracks in the leather are an intentional effect or a sign of aging. I personally have always found it a nice detail. On the inside (under the flaps) there is a name and a date written in small script. The paper inside is discolored. For an almost hundred-year-old item, the condition is good.
