Description from the seller
Monumental French studio ceramic candlestick, ca. 1950–1975
Large, hand-formed ceramic candlestick with a pronounced sculptural form.
The object is made from coarse-grained, red-burning/chamotte-containing clay and finished with a deep cobalt-blue glaze with dark nuances and a vibrant surface texture.
The asymmetrical form consists of a wide catch basin, a large integrated loop-shaped handle, and three supports.
Dimensions: approx. 48 × 24 cm.
There is no signature or atelier mark present. Based on its form, material and glaze, a French origin is suspected, with a dating around 1960–1975.
The object shows stylistic similarities with French studio ceramics from the La Borne region, but a specific maker cannot be determined with certainty.
A particularly large and characterful piece of French studio ceramics, of interest to collectors of mid-century and sculptural ceramics.
Condition: good vintage condition; please see photos for details and any signs of wear and age.
