Peurise Teumaga is a shield originating from Aceh, Indonesia. The shield was also used by Acehnese warriors during the Aceh War against the Dutch colonials in the 19th century. The Peurise Teumaga is made of cast brass. The decoration often consists of concentric circles and decorations of six hexagonal stars is also found on this shield. It is missing 4 or 5 of the side decorations. The diameter of this shield is approximately 20 cm If you look closely to the photo of the backside of the shield you can see its age, this is not a reproduction but an original with quite some age. Condition is stunning and patina incredible!
Although this piece shows signs of use it features fantastically rich decoration. Its patina, indicating its considerable age, combined with its elegant design, make it an ethnographic object of great interest.
