About the Wine Estate :

The mere mention of the name Romanée-Conti is enough to make any wine lover around the world thrill with excitement. In 1760, Prince Louis-François de Bourbon-Conti purchased a plot in Vosne-Romanée—originally planted by the priors of Saint-Vivant—shortly before his death in 1776. The plot was confiscated during the Revolution and subsequently sold to the highest bidder in 1794. It was at this time that the 1.8-hectare parcel was renamed Romanée-Conti, a name that would eventually be bestowed upon Burgundy’s most prestigious estate.
Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet acquired the property in 1879. Following the tenures of Henry-Frédéric Roch, Lalou Bize-Leroy, and Aubert de Villaine, the estate is now managed by Perrine Fenal and Bertrand de Villaine. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) owns 25 hectares of vines in Vosne, primarily within the commune's *Grand Cru* vineyards: La Tâche, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, Echézeaux, Grands-Echézeaux, and, of course, Romanée-Conti. In the Côte de Beaune, the estate has recently secured leasehold rights to three plots in Corton, in addition to its legendary Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet vines (which yield a very limited production that is not commercially released).
While Romanée-Conti itself commands the most attention, the estate’s other *Grand Crus* are equally impeccable, a testament to the meticulous work carried out both in the vineyard—farmed using biodynamic methods—and in the winery, where whole-cluster vinification is practiced. Yields are extremely low, and certain wines, such as Montrachet, are not produced every vintage due to insufficient quantities (as was the case in 1992 and 2016). 1945 is a great vintage; its price is naturally commensurate with its legendary status.

About the cuvée :

Like many Burgundian estates, La Tâche originated as a monastic property. It subsequently passed through the hands of two families—including the Joly de Bévy family, who were dispossessed during the Revolution. After being owned by the Basire and then the Liger-Belair families, the entire La Tâche vineyard was incorporated into the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1933. Meticulous vineyard care, a strict policy on yields, and the latest possible harvests result in an aromatic, opulent wine. Deep in color, La Tâche develops an extraordinary array of aromas, ranging from dark fruit and truffle to spices. Rich and concentrated, its bouquet reveals a myriad of nuances that blend into a harmonious whole of great finesse. It is a consistently exceptional wine, even in challenging vintages; for instance, in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine from the Domaine to be bottled.
