Beautiful decorative hand-carved wooden console (also known as a corbel or beam support), executed in a historic or Gothic Revival style. Heavy-quality oak.
France circa 1700–1800

The sculpture shows the characteristic face of a jester or medieval figure with a prominent collar, with above it a carved French fleur-de-lis.
Such wooden ornaments were originally used in architecture as structural or decorative supports under beams, eaves or interior cabinets. Today these are beloved collectibles for enthusiasts of antiques and folk art. Or they are used as decorative consoles.

Dimensions: approximately 37.5 cm high, 8 cm wide and 11.5 cm deep.

Condition: Despite drying cracks, a piece with character.
