Pippo (XX) - Ghost in muted blue

"Ghosts in Muted Blue" by Pippo (2026) is an intense acrylic-on-canvas work of 100 by 75 cm, clearly inspired by the famous and melancholic atmosphere of Edward Hopper, but reread with a contemporary and personal sensibility.

The composition, vertical and cinematic, frames the window of a nighttime venue, a typical diner or urban bar, captured from an external perspective. In the foreground, the dark base and the thick frame of the place cut the scene diagonally, accentuating the distance between the spectator (outside, on the deserted sidewalk) and the figures inside.

Inside, the cold and artificial light illuminates a dark wooden counter and two solitary patrons, whose features remain elusive, almost "ghostly." A man with his back to us, wearing a blue-blue jacket and a hat, sits immobile at the counter, while another profile is glimpsed more to the right, absorbed in his thoughts. The broad swathes of deep blue and green, contrasted by yellowish lights and the brown of the counter, amplify the sense of isolation, introspection, and silence.
