AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Important: porcelain biscuit bust representing Marie-Thérèse-Louise de Savoie-Carignan, Princess of Lamballe (1749-1792).

Very beautiful model finely executed, particularly detailed in the hairstyle, the face, the clothing and the floral ornaments.

The bust rests on an elegant fluted plinth, decorated with a medallion surrounded by a laurel wreath.

Dimensions :

Height: about 37 cm
Width: about 23 cm
Under the base there is a recessed mark partially crushed / difficult to read, whose construction evokes an old Sèvres-type mark with interlaced letters.

A very close specimen of this model, also depicting the Princess of Lamballe, was notably presented at auction as bearing a “Sèvres” mark. Sold 1000 euros at the Millons auction room in poorer condition.

Presumed era: late 19th century.

The quality of the modelling and the finesse of certain details are particularly remarkable. A slight 3 cm crack in the hollow of a fold.

Condition :

Good overall condition considering its age. Please study the numerous photographs which are an integral part of the description. Any minor defects, signs of age or biscuit imperfections are visible in the photos. Some leaves missing on the head, see photo. A 3 cm crack in a fold, very barely visible.

Important regarding attribution :

The mark under the base is presented as it appears on the piece. Despite its resemblance to certain marks used on Sèvres-type productions, the piece is therefore offered as an antique French biscuit, in the Sèvres style, bearing a recessed mark to be identified.

Beautiful collectible piece devoted to the Princess of Lamballe, an emblematic figure of Marie-Antoinette’s court.

Exceptionally careful packaging given the fragility and dimensions of the sculpture.
