Sculpture, I volti della follia :Messerschmidt - 60 cm - Plaster

Expressive bust in patinated plaster, inspired by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt

A patinated plaster sculpture depicting a male face captured in an extreme manifestation of human expression. The eyes tightly closed, the forehead strongly furrowed, and the mouth wide open confer on the work a notable emotional tension and a strong stage presence.

The subject freely draws inspiration from the famous “Character Heads” by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, an 18th-century sculptor known for his exploration of facial expressions, muscle contractions, and the most intense psychological states.

The patination in brown tones enhances the modeling of the face and gives the plaster an appearance similar to ancient bronze, accentuating wrinkles, tensions and plastic depth.
