French bronze sculpture by Henry Étienne Dumaige (1830-1888), depicting Joan of Arc.
The figure appears barefoot with peasant attire and in a stance of listening to the voices that, according to tradition, urged her mission. One hand rests on the chest while the other moves toward the ear, with the gaze raised. The composition stands out for the detailed modeling of the face, the hands, the hair, and the folds of the clothing. Dated between 1860 and 1870.
Signed “H. DUMAIGE” on the base.
About the artist: Henry Étienne Dumaige was born in Paris in 1830 and studied sculpture with Jean-Jacques Feuchère and Auguste Dumont. He regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1862 and 1877, presenting sculptural groups, statues, and busts. Throughout his career he produced numerous works in marble, plaster, and bronze, including portraits and small statues of historical figures such as Camille Desmoulins and François Rabelais. He died in 1888.
